According to quite a few film sites the much rumoured production of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is due on a timeline of release in 2011, and will be named 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'. The news was released yesterday (September 11), apparently by Johnny Depp in Jack Sparrow mode...

Good news or not?

As much as i would love a 4th it should have stopped after 3. Everything was tied up in a neat little package. Will got his Dad back and got marryed, Jack was in a diggy again since barbosa.....i'm not going to spoil that much. It was good and it doens't need another in my opion.

From what I hear it'll be Jack vs Barbossa in a race to get the Fountain of Youth. It also will be a lot more character dirven than the last two films (akin to Curse of the Black Pearl Very Happy )

I can't wait meself! Depp and Mr Rush are perfect in the portrayal of their pirate characters Very Happy

Hope so too: I loved all three films, and the third really set up a fourth with that ending.., I know some people have expressed dislike of the idea of a fourth, feeling that the end of the third was a good note to go out on, and perhaps disliking the idea that Will and Elizabeth will be dropped. Personally, I was really hoping for a fourth.. Go PotC4!

I too hope Fenrir is right, The Curse of the Black Pearl was brilliant, with all the competition between Sparrow and Barbosa.

After the 1st movie? Personally I thought that was the best, and they were only downhill from there (not to say that 2 and 3 weren't good, I definitely love the series, I just think the 1st movie still stands out as the best).

As far as the 4th, I certainly hope LordFenrir's info is right, too. In fact, that's kind of what I had assumed it would be, and based on the way they set it up in the end of the last movie, I have a hard time guessing what else it would be. Either way, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Just come back from watching it - very good film; don't think it was quite as good as the first, but better than two and three in my opinion.

That said, there does seem to be a wasted subplot in the form of

Just got back from seeing it, and I quite liked it. One of the better movies I though (though I loved them all). Maybe simply because they didn't focus on immortal characters that can only be defeated by one chance of tricking them.

Addressing the missionary question: it's said in exposition when they first catch the mermaid that a mermaid's kiss can heal wounds and prevent humans from ever drowning. The screenwriters have stated that these are true, not just what the characters in the movieverse have speculated. So he can live with his mermaid lover Under da Sea...sort of the opposite plot of the Little Mermaid Wink

Don't the characters also say the mermaids kill those they take down?

1.) Normal mermaids do, but I would hardly think that one who loves a human would actually eat him when they could just live happily together.

2.) NO! Go on YouTube and watch it now Razz

Assuming she does love him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the point raised that she was emotionally different to humans? Maybe her reaction was perfectly normal for a man eating mermaid. Razz

And the point was raised that she was different to other mermaids. There's 2 ways I think about this:
1. She was playing him all along and ended up killing him anyway Razz
2. they're now living together (I'm assuming there'd be an official marriage ceremony and everything). He's either human, a merman or a mermaid (though that would put quite a damper on their relationship one would imagine)

Yes, and I hated the crew of the pearl in the first one. Loved everything about the movie except for that. I like things that make sense, and guys that can't be killed unless you deceive them into giving up their immortality is not a viable weakness to me. I mean, except for the very specific circumstances with what happened, they were undefeatable. I'd prefer they were somewhat like Captain Jack from Dr Who and you could temporarily gain an edge over them... Same with the fishmen from the 2nd and 3rd.

Well, to the British officers weren't really present by that stage... So it kinda was a pirate band, and didn't they leave while the Spanish were still there? They were too busy on their primary goal to get sidetracked. But yes, I would've also liked to see them a bit more. They were kinda cool. I suppose there had to be someone's Navy in there Razz

Isn't it? He's clearly smitten (I mean he seems to almost cave at the end) and there was the precedent of the doll going off the cliff.

So it falls back to level ground. What's wrong with that? Makes things a whole lot easier. Unless it was unable to reach and would snap and then fall...

Nothing, but in the film it seesaws as I recall - I was just saying that to seesaw, it wouldn't be tottering on the edge, but rather would be positioned on a fulcrum.

That said, another thing has occured to me - the rocking could have been side to side rather than forwards/backwards. With the shape of a ship's bottom it could tilt in two directions while being on level ground.
