Although I only just joined, I cannot resist starting a topic for this great tale. Beginning with the Battle of Unnumbered Tears and ending on the threshold of more hopeful if yet more terrible times, this story deserves as much attention as any other of Tolkien's works. It is quite a few shades darker than LotR, probably as distant from LotR in tone as that book was from the Hobbit. If you have read the Silmarillion, you already know parts of Turin's story. If you have read through Unfinished Tales, you've heard a lot more of it. But this more recent publication is very much worth picking up even if you have seen those accounts. It is complete, polished, and even more full-to-the-brim woth heart-searing pathos.
