- Incoming: Misty Mountains
Khazad-dûm, nestled below the mighty peaks of the Misty Mountains was once the greatest of all Dwarven holds - a place of beauty, light and artisanship unequalled. Now, however, it is the haunt of Moria Goblins, lumbering Cave Trolls and other, more terrible creatures.
For generations the Dwarves have longed to reclaim their ancestral home, fighting long and bitter wars against the Goblins who have usurped their cherished kingdom beneath the mountains.
This October the battle for dominion is set to intensify as both the armies of the Dwarf Holds and the Misty Mountains receive new reinforcements. With new miniatures for both factions, Good and Evil players have something to look forward to.
For more information about the Misty Mountains releases in October, watch out for future newsletters, keep an on the Games Workshop website and check out October's issue of White Dwarf. Players of the Strategy Battle Game will find rules to accompany all these models in November's issue of White Dwarf. It doesn't seem all that long ago that Khazad Dum was released (in comparison to other areas). What more will they release? Maybe a Cave Drake or Stone Giant? What else is there... Gundabad Blackshields. For Dwarves, I dunno. King's Champion and Floi Stonehand, Lore Master of Moria? Most of the other options are just variations of current troops (eg. Iron Guard ancients) so I don't know they'll get models. Should be interesting. |

| There are many armies that need focussing on before these two (Screams Last Alliance!) but this could still be interesting and I hope GW do a good job on them. I'll add this to the News Items when I get a chance too (remember Cal, you're more than welcome to do so yourself whenever there's something that should be on the homepage, as with any other staff member as you have access to do so ). |

| If the minatures don't look epic in any way, shape, or form, I will run down to my nearest GW and start eating my way through dwarf warriors and then regurgitate them back out on the staff's heads. |

How? I can't post anything in the News forum? It just tells me it's locked and I don't have permission. From Warseer: - Scryer in the Darkness wrote:

Which is a shame and also slightly confusing. I would have liked the Giant/Drake to be plastic. I'm sticking with my original guess of Floi, Champion, Blackshields, Drake and possibly metal Giant? |

| I'm of two minds - it is always nice to get new stuff and there are "missing models" from both forces (at least if you're a WotR player), but as many are quick to point out it wasn't that long ago that these guys got some attention, and surely there are other factions that are more deserving of some new sets?
Numenoreans and 2nd Age elves seem like the obvious choice, having been left alone basically since the original Fellowship boxed game came out, but Arnorians, Khand variags, Dunlendings, and Carn Dum barbarians would all be good choices as well (not to mention that if Carn Dum warriors were released it would be an entirely new faction for SBG!).
Still, any LotR attention is good attention, in my book, and I can't complain too much about some cool new dwarf minis. The current goblins, while good, are also quite old, so maybe GW is looking to update some of them. |

If not let me know and I'll fix it. "Information This forum is locked: you cannot post, reply to, or edit topics." That's the message I get when I click the Locked button. Even though down the bottom it says I have premission to post new topics... Well, I for one am glad that they haven't released plastic Khandish Warriors. Gives me more time to spend on my existing models and more money for other things. |

| So, is this looking set to be a general, wishy-washy 'Dwarves vs Goblins' style supplement or are GW making a shot at the actual 'War of the Dwarves and Orcs'? Obviously game-wise, the two are a little interchangeable but it would be nice to see GW move toward a more historically themed approach in their supplements. But I guess we should just be grateful for some LOTR attention and, if we're lucky, a Cold Drake *drool* |

| I'd be willing to put a lot of money on the fact that this is NOT a supplement, merely a release of a few models and rules in WD like the last six releases have been. |

| Sorry, I was using 'supplement' in the more generic understanding of the term, not in the sense that we'd actually be returning to ye olde supplements. Lack of clarity on my part. Still, I was kind of holding out hope that there might be some sort of thought-through theme to accompany the releases other than the ever reliable DwarfvsGoblin bog standard eternal war. |

| Some how I doubt it AW. It'll probably be two pages in WD with SBG stats and maybe a WotR battle report. Any background will prbably be limited to one or two lines of flavour text of dubious canonisity next to each profile |

| Since no one has posted this yet, Scryer in the Darkness over on Warseer has posted that the release will contain two metal boxed sets and three metal blister packs, no plastic kits. Scryer has my full endorsement, since for the last several releases, his guesses have been 100% correct (I suspect he works for GW).
So, my thoughts:
* Metal Box #1: Stone Giant. Simple because it would be ridiculous to release it in a blister...it would bee too tiny for me to consider it a Giant. * Metal Box #2: No, it's not what you'd think! I guess it will be Goblin Commanders of some kind. Because since War of the Ring, almost every release has had some commanders, although they have been unnecessary. Plus, they said "Dwarves and Goblins", not "Dwarves and Monsters", which makes me suspect we'll get at least one Goblin set in this release.
* Blister Pack #1: Floi Stonehand, Loremaster of Moria. This one should be pretty obvious. * Blister Pack #2: King's Champion. Again, I think this is a no-brainer. I would use this lad as an excuse to do something really cool and set him on a 40mm base (he is considered a monster after all). * Blister Pack #3: Aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnndddd...*drum-roll please*: Cave Drake! If you think about it, it kind of makes sense. If I were designing such a creature, I would not make it on the scale of the dragon, since it's half the points as a dragon in the rulebook, and from what I can remember, a lot less powerful. I would stick it on a 40mm base and cram it in a blister like they do for Cave Trolls.
Those are just my opinions at least.
Cheers, Fenrir |

See my second post on the first page Perhaps it was a little too much like a footnote though. But yeah, your options make sense. I agree with Jaws though that the Command may instead be Blackshields (though wouldn't they be blistered?). I just don't know what they'd release for Command seeing as they don't have banners and already have 2 Shaman models? A Cave Drake would be cool in blister form, though surely that would mean it's rather small. But if it looks cool, I'll definitely be buying it. I'm not really hoping that they'll release both monsters though, maybe one will be held onto and released later in plastic? |
