Have people seen GW's latest blog update?

Competition winner announced; Warhammer scenery

Just in case anyone hadn't looked at it, there's the link. On the face of it, it doesn't really seem relevant except for an interesting view. However, it was the last update that got me thinking. The ex-Empire, now Orc outpost.
I was looking at it and thinking, you could do something similar and really cool for Gondor or Rohan and the like. Anyone seen anyone else make an outpost for LotR in a similar style? I'm tempted to make my own now...

Technically, any Cirth Ungol, Minas Morgul or Morannon scenery falls under this concept Wink

You know thats not what I meant. Cirith Ungol and Minas Morgul are fortresses. I'm talking about an outpost, where the extent of fortifications is a watchtower. Morannon could, haven't seen many of them though.

I was going to make a Gondorian one, with a pallisade, tents and a watchtower, but I started thinking that they'd probably just go for the whole keep thing with rooms built into it...

How about a marching fort like the Romans built? I.e. a dirt embankment topped with a pallisade and tents inside. To 'orcify' it have the pallisade damaged and breaches in the embankment.

what about the Rohan Captial (Can't remeber what it's call and probbly can't spell it).
That is a palisade fort and if you bulit up your "outposts" right you could combine them into this.

Yeah, maybe an encampment will be able to provide me with what I was looking for. At least with Gondor. I have plans for Arnor...

I don't really know how you'd be able to build them so they could be joined into Edoras. Surely it'd just be easier to build Edoras itself if that's what you wanted?

my local store made a gondor fort recently over run by mordor its so cool theres dirty areas acheived by washing certain areas in the foundation washes to represent where the orcs were living and sleeping. the forts based on the one that appeared in battle games in middle earth magazine issue 48.

Maybe an interesting way to approach it is to start with something fully built-up, then essentially "deconstruct" it? I.e. a Gondorian/Rohirrim outpost, tainted and having fallen into disrepair, with elements of Orcish/Uruk attempts at reconstruction?

It'd be a time-consuming process Razz But it could turn out quite effective, who knows... I'd try myself but terrain is not my forte... Laughing
