Plot:
In 1990, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new 'Prawn' friends.


Sounds like a strange plot but it looks really good, and of course it is produced by our freindly LOTR Director Peter Jackson.

It was very good! From the opening that seemed to be a documentary about the strange craft to the effects to the exploding humans into bits of blood and gore when shot at with a laser...it was great

And for a 30 mil budget, they sure did a hell of a good job making the "prawn" look believable. And I always got a little shiver down my spine when they had wide/even not so wide shots with the spaceship just hovering there.

Was it released earlier in the US or did you just see it straight away? It was released yesterday here and it's definitely on my to see list.

Both...it was released back in August, and I saw it on opening night

I love the Plot. It's really new and original. It also is directed by PJ too which is fantastic.
I would like to see it but i will wait for it to some on the TV along with King Kong.

All of Peter Jacksons films are great, King Kong and wasn't there some trilogy about some kind of special ring he filmed?

I'm sure this one will be just as good.

I mentioned King Kong as that is the only PJ film i haven't seen yet. I really should get around to see it tho it might be a little bad as i all ready know ever part of the plot. But hay it's a remake.

King Kong's a very good film. PJ has done very well with special effects and the creatures in it are look great (much better than the crap from the original, but you can't have expected them to do any better back then).

The Bugs bit is very good.
