i agree it does sound rubbish. However i might have to get it anyway really. Firstly to let you guys know if it's worth it and that i'm the most "Senior" LOTR and WOTR(Some what) player at my local. Becuase of my knowlage on the SBG i'm often mistaken as staff soo often.

Hmmm...sounds kinda lame, but hey, at least this means that they are continuing support for our game! The fact that they plan on releasing new books with more minis makes me happy, even if the products are less than spectacular. To me, it says that they actually give a darn and are trying...not hard, but trying.

To be honest, I doubt they're trying because they care - they're probably just doing it so that they can win the rights to TH tie-in merchandise and earn a lot of money in a couple of years. Once the hype has died down they'll probably only support it as long as their lisence lasts Sad

That still isn't necessarily a bad thing. If they want to keep going to win rights to the Hobbit, I say let them, because that means they'll be forced to make their models more realistic again to fit the figures from WETA's designs. Then they'll tie up the loose ends and end the lisence. No game can last forever, so when it should reach a logical end, I say let it happen, rather than re-doing the same armies over and over and over again like they do with Warhammer.

Hmm....as a non-WOTRer I'm ipartial as to the lameness but the fact that they're releasing new models is promising...so long as we get some accompanying SBG profiles.

Personally I thnik the situation would be better if GW had shut up shop on LOTR a while ago, at least as far as new releases goes, perhaps coming back to the game once TH arrived. Can't say theres that much I'd miss if GW had stopped churning out LOTR a few years ago.

Unfortunately, if they stop making new releases, they lose the license, which will allow other manufacturers to leap in and make figures for The Hobbit. While there may not be too many model makers with the capability of making the figures Reaper and Privateer Press probably won't do it. And the last thing I want to see is Wizards of the Coast pickin up the lisence and produing cheap pre-painted plastic models Sick

Hmm I would like to get into WotR at some stage. It does sound a fun game...

But I'm really quite happy that this is happening. I'd heard there were going to be 2 releases coming up, but I didn't really expect one to be LotR. Recently, I've feared that the support was dying, even WotR has only had the one book printed. But another book and more models is an encouraging sign that GW is sticking with LotR, which can only be a good thing. Let's face it, GW is one of the best companies for the game. While their support may be somewhat lacking, and costs expensive, we do have a wide range of models and a good ruleset, as well as probably more publicity than if some other company was to take over the licence.

Umm, do you mean strategy battle game?

@ Dinadan - I was actually serious. I've heard that despite a few problems with some areas, it's actually a decent ruleset, and I think it'd be fun to be able to mix in some larger battles alongside the smaller skirmishes. I'm not saying I'd choose WotR over the SBG, but a bit of variation doesn't hurt. Then again, I'm wanting to play some LotR naval combat as well.

Trust me it's not a fun game. Once most of the bugs have been ironed out it has the potential, but before that it's just one big headache. Most games, when playing a 'learning' game to help yourself understand the rules, you can understand the rules and a quick look at the rulebook now and again is all that is needed (even if you get the odd minor thing wrong); with WotR, you spend a lot of time looking at the rulebook and comming up blank - not fun :/

i realy stuggle to lern new games and being the LOTR expert at my local(Seriouly only 1 staff member can play the thing propally) i felt that i had to learn and tho the basics are simple but ever second you find holes. For example;
My unit with Aragorn fails a terror cheak when they where charged making there fight value 0 this turn. so now i just call an epic stike to make it 10 now. Which rule take hold?

Once GW iron out the 40+ pages of problems then it will be ok but until them it gets bogged down to looking at the rule book and arguning ever 5 seconds to find out who can do what then it becomes less fun.
