Recently ordered a Terran Fleet for it (a lot of people down the local club are ordering fleets for it, so I'll have plenty of opponants Very Happy).

If you were going to play it jaws, what fleet would you go for?

I don't normally get to excited about these sorts of games but this looks pretty good. Do you play their first system?

Don't know if I'll end up playing - depends on whether I can persuade anyone else to or not. Would probably go Aquan if I did.

That game looks pretty cool. If I was to start playing I'd probably go Sorylians, just because their ships look so cool. Aquans have nice background but I don't like their ships as much.
Their unchartered seas game also looks good. Wonder if it's something that could be adapted for LotR...

On Uncharted Seas: I don't play US, but I have seen it played down my club and would like to start a fleet one day.

As for adapting it for LotR, I suppose it could, although weapons ranges would have to be adjusted (as well as the ammonut of dice rolled for attacks) as all (or at least 99%) of ships in US are armed with cannon. LotR fleets would probably be limited to balisae and other types of bolt throwers with crewmen/marines adding in bowfire as they draw close, and most action would be in boarding actions rather than in ranged combat.

On FA: Initially I didn't like the look of the Sorylians, but they're starting to grow on me (may have to get some to use as allies if there's an allying system in the rules Razz )

Sif not even the artwork on the cover convinced you. They're sleek and have the coolest designs. The standard paint job doesn't do them as much justice though...

Anyway, those tactics were cool. Sounds like it's a fun game.

Got the rulebook now and had a quick flick throgh it last night. Looks like a fun game. Hoever, I did find one mistake in the rules, but as they're in the optional rules, it's not to bad. I PMed one of the high-ups via their forums last night, within a couple of hours he replied back that after a look at the rule in question it was indeed a mistake (an older version of that page had slipped through somehow) and that they were already working on an erratta that will be posted on their site in a couple of days. On the one hand I'm a bit disapointed that it needs an erratta so soon, but on the other hand I think it's good that they're working on it as soon as they can, unlike a cirtain company that we all know Rolling Eyes And unlike said company, these guys are still fairly small rather than big-power-hungry-multi-national Razz

I think its a good thing - we can't expect there to be no mistakes whatsoever, but the fact that he got back to you so quickly and that there preparing an errata as possible is certainly a nice thing to see.

So how do the rules look? Promising? I'm seriously considering buying it and an Aguan fleet although that may have ot wait until after Christamas...

The rules look quite good. I think that in terms of 'ease' they're akin to LotR - i.e. easy to learn, difficult to master. On a first read through, I doubt you'll pick up everything, but after a couple of games I think you'll have little need to refer to the rulebook, especially if you already play Uncharted Seas which is very similar rulewise.

If you do decide to get into it, I'd suggest you try and rope friends/family into it and pick up the Mega Deal (which contains all four of the first release starter fleets, a copy of the rules and a set of templates and counters).

Hmm..if I managed to get three others in on it that works out at around £35 each - although that doesn't include shipping costs which I can't seem to find.

Unfortunately - the chances are only me and my younger brother will be interested so that'll be £75+ each...eep...

Guess you could try looking for cheep online retailers. :/ If only you and one brother are getting it, then it might be cheeper to buy a starter fleet each and a rulebook and card pack to split between you, which going buy Maelstrom Games prices should work out as £42 each before shipping (alternatively, Christmas is coming up... Razz )

But the family Christmas present this year is a trip to America over Easter... And My parent already fixed-up and insured an old banger for my pending 18th...

Still...£42 each isn't bad...arn't their some templates or record sheets that are necissary too?

And on the subject of the game cards, how do they work? I know their not expensive but they're optional so what effect dop they have on the game? A good one I hope...

There are templates needed to play, but they are in the back of the rulebook, so you just need to photocopy them.

The cards each have an effect on them and there are various effects. They're marked wth one of S, T, A, or R. S is Squadron, T is Turn, A isAction and R is Reaction. The number of cards you have is determined by the number of squadrons you have.

Just finished assembling my Terran fleet. The models are really nice and I expect I'm gonna have fun painting them Smile. Being resin there was very little flash and only some filing was required. The Battleship still needs some work as the engine block doesn't really align that well (or at least it doesn't on the one I've got), but the gap is fairly small, so it's not really a problem, and if anything gives me an excuse to convert a bit t get a unique looking mini (I've already assembled the turrets in a slightly different configuration to give it a distinct look). All in all I'm pleased with how it's turning out.

One thing I will say thaough is that the Battleship is flipping huge. If my painting table wasn't so cluttered, I'd take a comparision phot against the Mumak as I'm fairly sure that stem to stern it's longer than the Mumak is head to tail Shocked I knew it's size before hand from seeing it written down as a figure, but it wasn't until I glued everything together that I realised how big that actually was!

Sounds promising Smile

Looking at the size of the lower class ships compared to the battleship I expected it to be pretty big but longer than the Mumak? Shocked That's pretty impressive.
